L’occhio della macchina
Moderator: Fabio Gadducci
Speaker: Simone Arcagni
The computer vision tries to understand how the human eye works and what mechanisms of perception it triggers: in practice how we see and how we interpret it, and also how we learn to recognize images. Then it transfers this knowledge to the machines to teach them to see, to understand and recognize the images and maybe even to track them down. Psychologists and neuroscientists, assisted by computer engineers, try to understand the dynamics of perception from the study of vision, until they reach the thresholds of consciousness itself. From surveillance and military applications, to archiving and teaching, through managing the museums of tomorrow, this critical history of the digital artificial eye allows us to explore particular areas and shed a light on the foundations and strategies of the new orientations and paradigms of vision.
