Paolo Angeli

_”… during the breaks of the tours, I spent the night playing long stretches of improvisation: I looked at my watch to see if I disturbed the neighbors, the result was recurring: 22: 22 … In the morning I woke up listening to Radiohead, improvised music, sounds of environment caught during my travels, recordings of the choirs to cuncordu or the purest flamenco. Now these souls have met … “Paolo Angeli_

After two years spent touring in all continents – with a sold out concert at Carnegie Hall in New York – Paolo Angeli is back at Banlieus Bleus with a surprising and unexpected concept concert : 22:22 free Radiohead. We are very far from the idea of ‘cover’ and we are in front of the composition of a suite based on an organic dramaturgy. Angeli plays with a sense of absolute freedom and rewrite the music of the band. With his guitar orchestra the sardinian musician interprets and destructs the compositional material of the british band. The compositions become pieces of a mosaic, arabesques that decorate a door between West and
East and, looking it closely, show the sign of the artisan who gave it shape. The musics are pieces of glass enclosed in a kaleidoscope, arranged through the lens of an elegant Mediterranean free music, in which the avant-garde meets post-rock, the flamenco beat alternates with the texture evoked by an analogue tape remember us the landscape sound of Sardinia. The feeling is that Angeli it been involved by Thom Yorke & company to recompose their discography, played in a single breath or who asked him to modify a score accomplished in an open work. 22:22 It’s a dedication to Radiohead who have built songs and melody
and, at the same time, a coherent gesture of a musician who once again moves the margins to grasp large areas of freedom.
